Text Box: Welcome to the home of the Middletown Township Historical Society (MTHS). The Society was first organized in 1982 in anticipation of the celebration of Middletown's 300th Anniversary in 1986, It was disbanded in the early 1990’s but was reformed in April of 2009 in anticipation of the Township's 325th Anniversary in 2011.

MTHS is dedicated to preserving our township’s rich history and artifacts that made Middletown what it is today. We typically meet the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. (except for July and August) in the Middletown Township Building and we invite you to participate. Better yet, consider becoming a member today!
Text Box: The Door Knocker - In 2009 MTHS adopted this door knocker as our symbol for the historical society because it symbolizes our mission, “opening the door to our past”. This ornate piece of hardware came from the Blackhorse Inn that was once located on the Baltimore Pike and Edgmont Great Road intersection (now Rts.1 & 352). The hotel was torn down in 1939 to make way for the widening of Baltimore Pike. The door knocker was rescued right before demolition.

The Blackhorse Inn was built in 1737 by William Noblit and granted license in 1739. The Inn changed hands many times, and eventually became a private residence. Many important public meetings were held there including the consideration of removing the seat of Justice to a more central position-which today is Media.
